SOCOM Confrontation – My Thoughts – Bloozbro

SOCOM Confrontation is almost here and with the European release around the corner, I would just like to share my thoughts about SOCOM Confrontation with you.
I can remember someone saying to me when I first talked about buying SOCOM,
“ Forget about any other game once you’ve played this”
I wasn’t sure where he was coming from, but I have been playing the game solid since October 2008, and it can only be described as “all consuming”!!!!
Where to start? Well, for the uninitiated it is an online only game so no story mode – you jump straight in to play with other gamers. There is a plethora of options at the game start up, including customisation of character’s features, personal armour, face & body camouflage and of course the differing weapon load outs, of which there are many to choose from.
Once you have set your character up you then enter the server lobby. Here you can choose to play with/against the world – USA, Canada, Asia, Australasia, China, Europe – the list is endless. Once a server fills up to its limit of 256 players, a further server spawns into life.
Having chosen your server to play in there are a number of pre determined game modes, from elimination, demolition or a medley of differing game modes. All of these are set to no re-spawn – why? Because that is the SOCOM way!!!! You need to play to understand the tension in a no re-spawn game. For first timers there is the option to create re-spawn games using all of the available 7 maps and 7 game modes (elimination, suppression, demolition, control, extraction, escort & breach)
I don’t profess to be a skilled player when it come to shooters, but I am a good communicator and this is what makes SOCOM so different from any other shooter I have played: the comms system on SOCOM is a PTT (push to talk) system so there is not the constant noise you get on other titles and, with the crystal clear communication within the game, it makes tactics easy to organise amongst the players.
Sure you can play this game like many other shooters, but be warned you will spend a long time dead as this game really does rely on team work and co-ordination to complete the many objectives within the game modes.
Be warned also there are no power ups for winning, so there are no additional health/gun/mobility add-ons. Your primary weapon is your ability to work as part of a team using your personal weapons skill and map knowledge and there are some huge complicated maps within the game. It is rumoured there are further maps and game modes on the way via downloadable content.
This game has been a very long time coming to Europe and sure, there are still some niggling issues with it, but let’s face it – what on-line game doesn’t? We are advised that the developers are constantly working to make improvements and to be fair there have been many over the last few months.
There have been some adverse reviews of the game but in my book it gets a 10/10 which is also a view of the many players that make up the UK SOCOM community.
Join us – you will soon see what we mean.

Just a quick comment to back up Blooz here. There has been some really poor reviews from many UK games sites & reviewers. Since the game was patched an awesome amount of problems were fixed so I would say re-review because it will beat much higher than 5/10 etc.
Do not let their reviews put you off. This game is brilliant and I have wasted somewhere in the region of 200+ hours already since oct/nov ’08.
Looking forward to getting my hands on this but the release date has been pushed back and pushed back in the UK – which is why I think a lot of us are suspicious of it being a bad game!
Thanks for the review though, always good to hear a real gamer reviewing something.
