It looks like a British based company called Awomo have taken the next evolutionary step in delivering games via DLC. Their system downloads a games core engine first and then begins with the embellishments. What this means is that you can begin playing the game before the download has been completed in its entirety.

They claim that with a reasonable internet connection you can download the core engine of Tomb Raider: Legend and begin playing it in less than 6 minutes and what’s also impressive is that the service works a lot like a YouTube video where it will only allow you to begin playing once enough content has been downloaded to be reasonably assured you won’t run out and have to wait for the download to catch up.

Good news for South African’s who are still plagued by bandwidth caps because the service will allow you to choose how much of a game you want to download enabling you to stay within that cramped limit the local ISP’s so kindly provide.

So unless you want to see then ending of a game before you begin, this new service looks like a great step in innovating the process of getting DLC.
