infamoust Exclusive Finally we get hands on with inFamous

Let me begin first by saying I had known about this games upcoming release but hadn’t paid much attention to it in recent months with the continued release of new games and DLC I had been distracted by other titles whilst watching the videos that had been released also by Sony over at the Playstation.Blog and over at community.eu.playstation.com I never really thought this game would be my cup of tea, oh my how I was wrong!

The inFamous demo begins with a comic book style introduction which will keep you entertained as it explains the story of your powers.

You take control of the story’s main character Cole McGrath and set off on your first mission to help Cole rescue a train full of hostages.

You begin on the Rooftop of a building , which has a very good vantage point to have a look at the environment around you (which I did on my second run through).

One of the things that amazes me is the amount of free running that your can do, Cole can scale any building in a matter of seconds , jump from rooftop to rooftop (only the rooftops below you with the use of gliding ) and climbing up and down lamppost’s has never been more simpler!

Cole has many ability’s which include the following ;

  • Lightning Bolt – Let fly with high voltage bolts, wounding or killing enemies, destroying objects or powering up machines.
  • Shockwave – Create a wave of high-impact energy that throws cars into the air, or slams enemies off of rooftops.
  • Bio Leech – Overpower an enemy, then use this attack to suck the electrical energy from the neurons in their brain.
  • Pulse Heal – Heal the wounded with a short burst of electrical energy applied direct to an injured person’s chest from Cole’s hands.
  • Contact Powers – A trio of powers that let Cole empower civilians to help him in battle.
  • Shock Grenade – An explosive ball of electrical energy that explodes with impressive force, damaging everything caught in its blast.
  • Lightning Storm – Take advantage of charged particles in the air and summon a colossal lightning strike.
  • Precision – An advanced ability that lets Cole briefly slow down time, zoom in on an enemy, and blast them with a super-charged lightning burst.
  • Arc Restraint – A non-violent way of dealing with villains, this ability uses electricity to bind an enemy’s hands and feet together and pin them to the ground.
  • Thunder Drop – Leap from the top of a high building and hit the ground extra hard, creating an electric shockwave that sends people and objects flying.

Cole also has a ingenious way of healing his health , he has the ability to tap into the power grid via street lights, downed cables, car batteries and other various electrical sources andto do so you just press L3 to locate a source and L2 to drain it.

Their are more ability’s that can be unlocked but depending on which Karma path you take; being a Hero or inFamous will effect which ones can be unlocked.

After concentrating on the demo’s 4 missions I had another re-run testing the game’s environment and destructibility which impressed me immensely, this sort of game and enviroment is one that could distarct you from the game’s story line and spend many hours exploring the city.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Playstation Store as the demo hits on 21st May 2009 and the full EU release is 29th May 2009.

As a final note we would just like to say to SCEE thanks for providing us and giving us a early chance to play the demo.

Nice little review. It’s got my eagerness brimming now! Just been watching some of the videos dotted around the world wide webby and it really does look spectacular! I can’t wait for the game to pop through the door in a few weeks. I can see a lot of long nights being spent mouting drainpipes, flipping from building to building, zapping…everything and most importantly, finding out how is electricity powers conduct in different scenes…

This is a good review, I’d kill a man for a code, lol.
I’m really hoping there is a code giveaway, it would be a wise move on Sony’s part.
    Thanks richard! :D

I’ve got to agree, I’m pretty excited about this. Was listening to IGN’s podcast Beyond and they’d only praise to give it. Just tried out the first part of the demo and it’s pretty damn great! As someone else has mentioned, it’s somewhat similar to Crackdown on the 360, which I loved, especially the way Cole moves and the ease of scaling tall buildings. Only about 20 more days before it’s out right?

  6. Here’s a new trailer to drool over. It’s titled “Duality” – http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/372/77.416
