The movie prequel, which focuses on where the ferocious, claw wielding mutant, otherwise known as Logan came from, hit the big screen last week. If you, like us, sat the entire month of April in great anticipation waiting for its release, you may be interested a few of the movies mystical tidbits. If you have not seen the movie please note that the list does contain spoilers.

  • Fellow South African, Gavin Hood, who was catapulted into the limelight for his work on Tsotsi after the movie won an Oscar, directed the film. It is interesting to note that he is not a fan of comic books.
  • The film has two different endings that appear after the credits depending on the theater you watched it at. One depicts Weapon XI’s hand reaching from the rubble to touch his severed head, where upon it comes to life before the scene fades to black. The other shows Wolverine drinking at a bar in Japan where he is asked if he is drinking to forget: he replies that he is drinking to remember.
  • Hugh Jackman was a producer of the film via his company Seed Production and earned $20 million for the film.
  • Live Schreiber who played Victor Creed, Wolveines older brother put on 18kg’s of muscle for the role.
  • Michelle Monaghan was originally chosen for the role of Kayla Silverfox, Wolverine’s love interest but after a scheduling conflict the role was given to Lynn Collins.
    A young Storm was going to make a cameo appearance in the film but her scene was eventually edited out of the final cut.
  • Strangely, Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee did not make his usual cameo appearance in this film.
  • Gambit finally makes an appearance who was a much missed character from the previous three X-men films.
  • Principle photography was shot in New Zealand and Fox studio’s Australia, with a few shots made in Vancouver on January 12, 2009, only three months before the movies debut.
  • The film premiered in Tempe, Arizona which was decided by a contest held on the official website.
  • Nine days before the films release it was recoded that it had outsold Iron Man 3-to-1.
  • Hood stated that there might be a sequel that will be set in Japan and that Gambit and Deadpool may have their own spin off’s.
  • Hugh Jackman has reportedly confessed that he loves to sneak into cinemas to watch fans’ reactions to his movies. “I go in on opening weekend and I watch them. There is a sense of fantasy and escape.”
