Michael Jackson who was not only the king of pop but also a superhero to many kids in the 80’s died of cardiac arrest on 25 June 2009. I was driving when I heard the news and almost had to pull off the road at the shock of it. I’ve been a fan since I was born and I’m I was deeply saddened by the news. Michael Jackson was a great musical artist and in his later years I think he was ill treated to an extent that he did not deserve.

Jackson was a superhero to many kids around the world which was made more evident in his Smooth Criminal video and Moonwalker film. Soon thereafter, in 1990 the Moonwalker game made its debut which was based on the film and co-developed my Michael himself. Befitting to Michaels placid demeanor there was no physical contact in the game and used magical dance moves for attacks instead.

I remember playing Moonwalker for hours and loving every moment of it. When friends came over we would play it co-operatively as it allowed up to three players at once, each sporting Michael’s suit from the Smooth Criminal video in different colours, not forgetting the awesome armband that came with each.

Bubbles, Michael real life Chimp at the time also made an appearance in the game who once found would transform Michael into the Robot from the Moonwalker film who could shoot lazers from its arms andwas much more powerful than the dance magic. Funny though, I always preferred to play as Michael himself and not his robotic version.

Michael Jackson appeared in more games after Moonwalker including: Space Channel 5 and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2.

Michael Jackson was my superhero as a kid and I remember begging my mom to get me a ‘bad’ zipper jacket on one of her trips to the UK. She eventually gave in and I got my jacket, needless to say, the smallest size was about 3 years to big for me. I was luckily enough to see Michael second last concert in Johannesburg in 1997 and I’ve never forgotten how absolutely amazing it was. It rained most of the night but it didn’t matter because we had Michael right in front of us.

Yesterday marked the end of an era; never again will we see the Moonwalk done with the style and flash that Michael possessed or spectacular dance moves that left nothing but a smile on our faces. We all loved you Michael and we will miss you. Condolences from the CuriousOnion team to all Michael Jackson’s, Fans, Friends and Family.
