Interview with Brooke Hattabaugh from the all girl clan FragDolls
We recently had the privilege of interviewing Brooke Hattabaugh from the professional all girl clan FragDolls. Now we know what all you guys are there are thinking, “she is gorgeous and a gamer” but she is happily married and would without a doubt kick many of our arses if we went up againsed her in a game.
1. How did you form your girl only clan, surely it’s difficult to find enough girl gamers to form a clan?
Ubisoft formed it. Rhoulette (The head Frag Doll or Manager) worked for Ubisoft as a Community Manager. She wanted to start a team of professional girl gamers to compete in FPS and help promote Ubisoft products. She pitched her idea to Ubisoft, which than gave her the blessing and support she needed. They put out job posted like any other job, looking to hire 7 girls for the Frag Doll team. We applied like we would any other job. It was more difficult 4 ½ years ago (The birth of the Frag Dolls) then it is now. We are actually recruiting two new members now and we are suspecting hundreds of applications. It seems women in gaming grows bigger and bigger each year.
2. What do you girls think of the term "girl gamers"? Does it offend you or is it ok?
Doesn’t really bother me, but I prefer to be called, gamer.
3. What games do you play online and how often do you have matches?
This is the first season in years we will be taking a break from competitions. We usually compete on the MLG or Major League Gaming circuit, but this year they decided to take our game of choice off the circuit. We are hoping they will put it back on for next season, or we will be forced to train in a different first person shooter. When we do compete, we train as a team, 4 hours a day 5 days a week, but these are just required hours. We usually end up playing more, just not as a solid team.
4. What games are your currently playing?
I just finished KillZone 2 and Left 4 Dead. I loved them both, but if I had to pick…KillZone2 wins! The game was challenging, story intriguing and the game itself was beautiful!
5. Have you played 50 cent: Blood in the Sand and if so where you offended by 50's continuous referral to the only female in the game as - "That bitch"?
I can’t really have opinion about the game itself, it wouldn’t be fair because I have not played it, but I do know that I get offended when that word is used toward me, it’s rude and disrespectful.
6. Do you get swamped by male Avatars when you walk around something like Playstation Home and what do you think can be done to prevent this kind of harassment?
I have never been harassed by an avatar. Lol. But, I have been harassed multiple times on Xbox Live. This usually occurred when Xbox Live first came out. Now that more and more women are playing, it seems the harassment is dying down. Women in gaming are more acceptable than it was a couple of years ago.
7. Do you have a boyfriend because by almost any guys standards a girl gamer is a rare treasure in this world
I don’t have a boyfriend anymore, because I recently married him making him my husband now.
We met on Halo 2, a few years ago. He worked for Bungie at the time as an animator. I remember thinking he was so cheap, because it seemed like the only weapon he knew how to use was the rocket launcher. I would always tease him that he sucked for someone that worked on the game for a living.
8. How long have you been gaming and how do did you get started?
I started gaming at the age of 5. My twin brother and I receive a Nintendo and loved playing Punch Out and Mario Bros. It wasn’t until 2002, when Xbox Live came out that I turned from a casual gamer into a hardcore obsessed gamer.
10. Who is your favourite female character in a game and why?
Jade from Beyond Good and Evil was pretty awesome.
11. If you could date any male gaming lead, who would it, be?
Sam Fischer from Splinter Cell is hawt! He’s sneaky and doesn’t talk much. He would be perfect for me!
